- Divide the required image width by the projector throw ratio to get the mounting distance
- Check that the mounting position can reach that distance without blocking sight lines or walkways
- Confirm the planned image size still fits the surface after lens shift and keystone correction
- Leave a small margin for on-site adjustment instead of designing to the exact limit
